What is EPS?

Styrofoam is the colloquial name for expanded polystyrene, or EPS (from English: Expanded PolyStyrene). It is made from foamed polystyrene, which during production increases its volume dozens of times, creating beads of a few millimeters in diameter. Once shaped, they form a coherent, mechanically durable whole.

Styrofoam achieves its excellent insulating properties because 98% of its content is air trapped in the porous cells of the structure.

Excellent Thermal Insulation

Styrofoam does not absorb water because it is a synthetic material. For this reason, its water absorption is close to zero. As a result, it remains an excellent thermal insulator.

Styrofoam is also a self-extinguishing material, meaning that it stops burning immediately once the source of fire is removed.
